Duvel #1 bottled, #2 updates
Posted: July 7th, 2008 | Author: Stacy | Filed under: Duvel, Homebrew | 7 Comments »The first batch of duvel — the weirdly quick to ferment one — is now in the bottle and seems normal. Only taste will truly tell! In my mad rush to make tons of wedding beer I am now running out of bottles to put beer in. Anyone in Portland want to save their non-screw top bottles for me? Rinsed before storage, if you please
As for my second duvel, it’s pretty much done fermenting, right on schedule. I’ll have to wrangle some more bottles for that one.
Next up: another batch of kolsch because, well, I’ve consumed much of the last one. Oops!
Freecycle!
I might be able to part with some bottles for a taste of the new brew. Homebrew swap? I’ve got a few bottles left to share.
Stacy … how did your Duvel batches end up??
They both turned out more like a dubbel than a duvel, which was weird since the malt was a Brewferm diablo extract kit. Something must have been different about this year’s extract from previous years, as the beer was much darker in these batches than it has been in the three previous times I’ve made that duvel recipe.
But it still tasted great! People at the wedding thought it was awesome, so we’ll just let them be the final judges.
Hi Stacy,
We are considering brewing a batch of duvel. Can you share your recipie? I am an all-grain brewer but I am willing to to brew extract – if the recipe is amazing!
Cheers,
Samir

The recipe has been great in the past, but recently I’ve been disappointed in the duvel malt kits from Brewferm. My last two batches of duvel came out dark and much more like a dubbel. The recipe I used came from “Great Beer from Kits,” and was great 4 times out of 6. So now I’m looking for a new good recipe, too!
I came across a rather interesting recipe, and brewed it. The fermentation took its sweet time, but the results were amazing. It is an all-grain recipe with 7 different grains.
Here is the link. I have some bottled and kegged. If you in the Seattle area, you are welcome to a sample.
