You might notice that on my page about Northwest Brews I have Roots Brewing listed. I may have to rethink that! I do love their heather beer and all, but the folks at Roots just flaked on their beer donation for the Oregon Humane Society volunteer thank you party that’s happening tonight. Who does that?!! Flake on us nice folks who take care of the homeless pets? Puh-leez! Yet another reason I’ll have to start making my own heather beer.
Fortunately, Widmer has saved the day, which is cool of them though I’m not so sad about my beerlessness if Widmer is providing the beers.
- They’re owned by Anheuser-Busch
- Their beer isn’t that awesome anyway
- You can get Drop Top anywhere in town, and I bet they won’t have SnowPlow tonight
All the same, thank you Widmer Brothers for donating beer to us! It’s great to see companies step up on such short notice.

On a non-beer note, Oregon’s Domestic Partnership bill is finally in effect! That means we gay folk can finally register for domestic partnerships in Oregon and receive many of the legal benefits heterosexual couples enjoy with marriage. I can’t even begin to explain how awesome, uplifting, and exciting this is. I really didn’t think it would come to pass. Woohoo!
When Kathy and I get married, we’ll have a beer toast instead of a champagne toast, that’s for sure! I’ll probably make a duvel, some cider, and maybe a wit beer for the toast. And I’ll call the wit “White Wedding,” get it?

I just got back from seeing a naturopath about what appears to be arthritis in my hands. Arthritis would suck because I use my hands for work all the time, and if I can’t mouse and type, I’m screwed. So it does seem that I have some manner of arthritis, and the current prescription to clear it up is a gluten-free diet. What does that mean?
NO BEER FOR A MONTH. Or maybe longer.
I’m less concerned about cutting bread products out of my diet, though it’ll be a challenge. But I’m just sad that I can’t have beer! I guess I could try that expensive sorghum beer, but that just seems desperate.
On the up side, I guess I’ll probably lose some weight to diet change and a reduction in caloric intake!
Stupid body. But I won’t let it keep me from posting about beer!

Homer Simpson certainly says it best! Luckily, I don’t have to drink Duff for the rest of my life. I’m lucky enough to live in Portland, Oregon, the beeriest place in the country. Between my own homebrew, great craft breweries, and a general demand for a diverse beer supply, I’ve got it made.
Why a beer blog?
Because sometimes a girl just wants to write about beer, damnit! Not a snooty beer blog, just a place where I can write about my latest brew, or a great place in town serving some beer, or whatever beer thing I feel like. Maybe I’ll even post some favorite recipes!
Stay Tuned
I’ll post photos of my two latest beers, which are currently busy fermenting. One is an Irish Stout, the other is a Grand Cru. My friend Megan and I got them started last Saturday, and they’re bubbling along quite nicely!
